Vitamin A Beta Carotene, C, D and E in Reviralis: What the Label Prints
Reviralis capsules print four vitamins per 2 capsules: vitamin A 720 mcg RAE as beta carotene, vitamin C 125 mg, vitamin D 2.5 mcg and vitamin E 27 mg. Each amount is printed and sits under its upper limit. Vitamin D is the smallest, at 13% of the Daily Value. No source ties any of the four to herpes outbreaks.

The four vitamins01
Which vitamins A, C, D and E amounts does the Reviralis label print?
The label prints a real amount for each: vitamin A 720 mcg RAE, vitamin C 125 mg, vitamin D 2.5 mcg and vitamin E 27 mg per two capsules.
Unlike the 661 mg blend, nothing is hidden. The needs and limits below come from NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements (NIH ODS, Vitamin A) (NIH ODS, Vitamin C). All 22 printed lines are on the supplement facts page.
| Name on the label | Vitamin A (as Beta Carotene) 720 mcg RAE, 80% DV |
|---|---|
| What it is | A fat-soluble vitamin, here as beta carotene |
| Place on the label | Its own line, amount printed |
| Amount per 2 capsules | 720 mcg RAE per 2 capsules, printed (80% of the Daily Value) |
| Daily need or amount used in research | Adults need 900 mcg RAE (men) or 700 mcg (women) a day; the upper limit is 3,000 mcg RAE of preformed vitamin A |
| Upper limit for adults | Upper limit 3,000 mcg RAE (preformed vitamin A) |
| Strength of evidence | Essential nutrient; need is well established |
| Main caution | Beta carotene from supplements raised lung cancer risk in smokers in large trials, so smokers are told to avoid it (NIH ODS). Vitamin A in pregnancy has its own limits. |
| Name on the label | Vitamin C (as Ascorbic Acid) 125 mg, 139% DV |
|---|---|
| What it is | A water-soluble vitamin, as ascorbic acid |
| Place on the label | Its own line, amount printed |
| Amount per 2 capsules | 125 mg per 2 capsules, printed (139% of the Daily Value) |
| Daily need or amount used in research | Adults need 90 mg (men) or 75 mg (women) a day; the upper limit is 2,000 mg |
| Upper limit for adults | Upper limit 2,000 mg |
| Strength of evidence | Essential nutrient; regular use has not been shown to prevent colds in most people |
| Main caution | Over 2,000 mg a day can cause stomach upset and diarrhea. Vitamin C raises iron absorption. |
| Name on the label | Vitamin D (as Cholecalciferol) 2.5 mcg, 13% DV |
|---|---|
| What it is | A fat-soluble vitamin, as vitamin D3 |
| Place on the label | Its own line, amount printed |
| Amount per 2 capsules | 2.5 mcg (100 IU) per 2 capsules, printed (13% of the Daily Value) |
| Daily need or amount used in research | Adults need 15 mcg (600 IU) a day up to age 70; the upper limit is 100 mcg (4,000 IU) |
| Upper limit for adults | Upper limit 100 mcg (4,000 IU) |
| Strength of evidence | Essential nutrient; 2.5 mcg is a small share of the daily need |
| Main caution | Far above the upper limit for long periods can raise blood calcium. 2.5 mcg is well under it. |
| Name on the label | Vitamin E (as DL-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) 27 mg, 180% DV |
|---|---|
| What it is | A fat-soluble vitamin; the 'DL-' form is the synthetic one |
| Place on the label | Its own line, amount printed |
| Amount per 2 capsules | 27 mg per 2 capsules, printed (180% of the Daily Value) |
| Daily need or amount used in research | Adults need 15 mg a day; the upper limit from supplements is 1,000 mg |
| Upper limit for adults | Upper limit 1,000 mg |
| Strength of evidence | Essential nutrient; supplements have not prevented heart disease or cancer in large trials |
| Main caution | High doses can thin the blood a little and add to blood thinners such as warfarin (NIH ODS). The label's 'DL-' prefix marks the synthetic form, so 'all natural' does not describe this line. |
Vitamin A02
Is vitamin A as beta carotene a concern in a supplement?
At 720 mcg RAE it is nowhere near a limit, but beta carotene has one known caution: smokers should avoid it.
The 3,000 mcg RAE upper limit applies only to preformed vitamin A (retinol). Beta carotene is a different form. In large trials, though, beta carotene supplements raised lung cancer risk in people who smoke (NIH ODS, Vitamin A). A supplement counts 2 mcg of beta carotene as 1 mcg RAE, so 720 mcg RAE is about 1.4 mg. Smoker trials used about 20 to 30 mg a day. If you smoke, or used to, ask a pharmacist.
Vitamin C03
Does vitamin C 125 mg help colds or outbreaks?
Vitamin C 125 mg covers the daily need, but regular supplements have not been shown to cut colds in the general population.
The 125 mg is 139% of the Daily Value and about 6% of the 2,000 mg upper limit (NIH ODS, Vitamin C). The sales page talks about "defenses"; the label does not. We found no source linking vitamin C supplements to herpes outbreaks.
Vitamins D and E04
How much vitamin D and vitamin E are in the capsules?
Vitamin D is a small 2.5 mcg (100 IU), and vitamin E is a generous 27 mg of the synthetic form.
The vitamin D line is 13% of the Daily Value. Adults need 15 mcg (600 IU), so two capsules cover about a sixth (NIH ODS, Vitamin D). Vitamin E is 1.8 times the 15 mg need yet only 2.7% of the 1,000 mg limit. The "DL-" in "DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate" marks the synthetic form, so "all natural" does not fit this line. High doses may add to blood thinners (NIH ODS, Vitamin E).
On warfarin or another blood thinner? Show the panel and ask about vitamin E, bilberry and DHA. Keep taking every prescribed medicine, including any antiviral, unless your prescriber says otherwise. See a clinician for a diagnosis, because other conditions look like herpes. Call 911 for trouble breathing, a seizure, chest pain, swelling of the face or throat, or sudden confusion with severe headache and stiff neck.

Do the printed amounts add up with my other supplements?
They can, so add them up: all four vitamins here sit well under their upper limits, but a second multivitamin counts too.
Staying under a limit is not an endorsement. It does not show the product does anything for herpes.

FAQ07
Questions about vitamins A, C, D and E in Reviralis
How much vitamin C is in Reviralis?
Reviralis prints vitamin C at 125 mg per two capsules. That is 139% of the Daily Value and about 6% of the 2,000 mg adult upper limit. Adults need 75 to 90 mg a day.
Is the vitamin A in Reviralis retinol or beta carotene?
The label says vitamin A as beta carotene, 720 mcg RAE. The 3,000 mcg RAE limit applies to preformed retinol. Beta carotene supplements raised lung cancer risk in smokers in large trials, so smokers should ask a pharmacist.
Is 2.5 mcg of vitamin D enough?
No, it is a small share. Adults need 15 mcg (600 IU) a day to age 70, and 2.5 mcg is 13% of the Daily Value. Ask your clinician whether you need more.
What does DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate mean?
It is the synthetic form of vitamin E. The DL prefix marks the lab-made mix, while natural vitamin E is written D-alpha. Reviralis prints 27 mg.
Can vitamin E interact with blood thinners?
Yes, high doses may add to the effect of blood thinners and raise bleeding risk, according to NIH. The label prints 27 mg, well under the 1,000 mg limit. Show your pharmacist the label if you take warfarin.
Does a 139% Daily Value mean too much vitamin C?
No. Percent Daily Value compares the amount with one reference need, not with the upper limit. At 125 mg, vitamin C is about 6% of the 2,000 mg ceiling, where stomach upset begins.
